Cruinniú na nOg

For Cruinniú na nOg, 2023, in partnership with DLRCC Libraries, we are running a number of FREE fun events for kids aged 6-12 years old, focusing on the history of south Dublin.
There are three activities to choose from across two locations, each lasting 45 minutes.
Mock excavations
Learn the skills of an archaeologist, working as a team to solve a series of puzzles and identifying mystery artefacts

High Cross Workshops
Learn the role of the High Cross in Early Christian Ireland. The focus will be on the High Cross as a method of telling stories, from the bible, and from the lives of the kings that erected them.
Children will learn how to draw a range of Celtic knots and then design their own panel for the High Cross, telling a story of what is important to them – be it family, sports, or an important event in their lives.

Anglo-Norman Shields
Learn about the arrival of the Anglo Normans in this part of Ireland, and the shields they used to protect themselves and to identify their family / whose side they were on.
Children will learn about heraldry, what symbols and colours meant to medieval knights, and they will design their own shield, picking colours and symbols that represent their values.
